The 90-hole, 5 round Las Vegas Invitational gets underway Wednesday (US time), when the event is played for the 21st time.
The tournament is contested over three separate courses (TPC of Summerlin, TPC at the Canyons and the Southern Highlands Golf Club), and is is a pro am format with each the three courses alternated over the first three days before the tournament returns to the host course, The TPC at Summerlin, for the all-important final two rounds.
New Zealand’s Phil Tataurangi, still suffering from a worrying back injury, will unfortunately not be able to defend his maiden USPGA Tour victory where he won last year by a shot over Stuart Appleby and Jeff Sluman following a final round 62.
Three time winner of this event, Jim Furyk, is the likely favourite ahead of Darren Clarke and Stuart Appleby. Furyk played well last week at the American Express Championship for 12th and Appleby has been runner up at this last two starts this season and was also runner up here last year. Other leading players in the field include Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, Chris Di Marco and Robert Allenby, Jerry Kelly and Charles Howell.
Australasians entered are Steve Alker, Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Greg Chalmers, Paul Gow, Gavin Coles, Mathew Goggin, Scott Laycock, Geoff Ogilvy, Anthony Painter, Craig Perks and John Senden.
The event is worth $US4 million.
