The Australian PGA Championship added another Major Winner and Australia’s brightest international star to its already impressive field for Hyatt Regency Coolum in December this year.

On the back of this week’s announcement that Greg Norman will be joined by USA PGA winner Steve Elkington, Tournament Chairman and President of SFX Sports Golf, Tony Roosenburg confirmed that America’s Rich Beem, also a winner of the USA PGA and Australia’s multiple international winner, Adam Scott will compete for the million dollar purse. Beem and Scott will play in the MasterCard Masters at Huntingdale the week before.

“The PGA Championship goes from strength to strength, and to have the best pre-Christmas field in Australia says a lot about the support of the players for the event.” said Roosenburg.

“To have three major winners in the field plus Adam Scott, who I’m sure will win one soon, is fantastic for the public of Queensland, the Sunshine Coast and our hosts at the Hyatt. It seems that the internationals are well aware of the Championship with the significant media coverage generated last year and both Steve and Rich are genuinely excited by their first visit to the Sunshine Coast. On top of this, most of Australia’s international talent including defending champions Peter Lonard and Jarrod Moseley have indicated their intentions to play and we are in for an exciting event. This time we will have one winner.”

In welcoming today’s announcement, Queensland Events’ Chairman, Mr. Des Power, said Australia has had an enormous influence on international golf, both male and female.

“As a nation, we have produced more champions per capita than any nation except America. The Australian PGA Championship, the oldest in this country, has consistently been a platform where we see current and emerging players”, Mr. Power said

The PGA Championship will be played at the Hyatt Regency Coolum from December 11th – 14th.

Tickets are now on sale through the PGA Hotline 1800 009 499 (freecall).
