Australia’s Rodger Davis, winner of 25 tournaments internationally, including a victory this year on the tough Champions Tour in the USA, has agreed to play in the Australian PGA Championship at Hyatt Regency Coolum on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. During the final round of this years Farmers Charity Classic in the USA, Davis posted a birdie, birdie, birdie, eagle, birdie finish, the best this year on the Champions tour, indicative that the form that made him such a crowd favourite in the 80’s and 90’s has not deserted him.

“I am looking forward to playing this years Championship and to returning to the Hyatt Regency Coolum. I have fond memories of the Resort having won the Coolum Classic there back in 1992.” Davis said.

Davis who caught the imagination of the public in the 1980’s with his colourful clothing and great form including a win in the Bi Centennial Golf Classic at Royal Melbourne, will join an elite field which already includes Greg Norman, Steve Elkington, Rich Beem, Adam Scott and defending Champions Jarrod Moseley and Peter Lonard.

“There has been a lot of negativity about Australian Golf in recent times, however the Australian PGA Championship seems totally immune from it.” said Tournament Director Rod Leembruggen.

“We have a fantastic field, certainly one of the best of this summer, hospitality is sold out on the weekend with only limited space on Thursday and Friday and pre event ticket sales are well ahead of schedule. We look set for a great Championship and with six weeks to go, we are still confident of attracting more internationally renowned players.”

The Australian PGA Championship will be played from December 11 – 14 2003. Tickets are available by calling the PGA Hotline 1800 009 499.
