On Monday evening November 3rd of tournament week, the Emerald Lakes will play host to the “Nifsan Night Golf Shootout” with ten leading golfers competing under lights for a purse of $10,000. Nine holes at Emerald Lakes are fully lit for night golf.
Nine golfers will be selected from those participating in the Queensland PGA Championship and they will be joined by Gold Coast golfer Jenny Sevil. Jenny has won tournaments in Australia and Japan including the Daikyo Ladies Challenge and the Yakult Ladies Classic in Japan where she produced a record breaking 29 on the back nine on her way to victory. While not competing on a full time basis at present Jenny has shown enough in the events she has played in recent times to suggest she will be a worthy addition to the “Shootout” field. Jenny was the first Australian lady golfer to secure a golf scholarship for an American University where she played on the University of Mississippi team for three years. Jenny will play from the same tees as the men.
Ten players start the event being played over the Emerald Lakes course’s back nine, which has been lit for night golf. One player, who has either the highest score on that hole or the golfer furthest from the pin in regulation, will be eliminated per hole. By the time the two remaining players reach the ninth hole they will be playing for a winner’s purse of $5000 and $2200 for the runner-up.
The Night Golf Shootout start from the tenth tee at Emerald Lakes at 6.30pm with a sausage sizzle at 5.30pm and entertainment by noted Trick Shot Artist Sandy Kurceba at 6.00pm.
The likely players for the shootout are Wayne Grady, Nathan Green, Peter Senior, Stuart Bouvier, Chris Downes, Ryan Haller, Mahal Pearce, Jenny Sevil and Scott Hend.
