Queensland professional Ryan Haller has taken a commanding early lead in the Queensland Open Golf Championship at Ipswich Golf Club after firing seven birdies and two bogeys in the opening 11 holes.
His five under par score is one better than New South Wales professional Ewan Porter who went through the first nine four under par, while Scott Gardiner from the Gold Coast fought back from a viral infection to be two under, also after nine.
Richard Moir, from Victoria, making his debut as a professional, started sensationally with a hole-in-one at the 127 metre second hole and turned at the ninth hole at one under par.
The opening day is being played in fine, hot weather, after 60 to 80 km per hour winds rocked the course yesterday during the traditional pro-am.
