Melbourne golfer Euan Walters has matched an incredible weight loss programme with another scoring blitz to be the outright leader in the Queensland Open championship at Ipswich today.

The 32-year-old, who’s lost 40kg in the past nine months, followed up his course record 66 yesterday with an eight under par 64 to be at 14 under par, three ahead of young Redcliffe rookie, Chris Downes who also shot 64 today.

The biggest improver in a day of new course records was the Gold Coast’s Scott Bouvier who posted a nine under par 63 to beat Kiwi Ben Gallie who had finished half an hour earlier with a 65.

Joint overnight leader Don Fardon remains in equal second place with Downes on 133 while Bouvier is on the next line with little known Matthew Miller from NSW another to shoot 64 today.

The afternoon half of the field is currently on the course as officials closely watch for predicted thunderstorms with the risk of lightning.
