Yet another Korean golfer has made her mark on the LPGA Tour when Shi Hyun Ahn outstayed her illustrious fellow country women, Se Ri Pak and Grace and Gloria Park, to win the CJ Nine Bridges Classic on Jeju Island off the south coast of South Korea.
Ahn, who is not a member of the LPGA Tour but rather a rookie on the Korean LPGA Tour this season, will join the many Koreans successfully plying their trade in the US next year.
Her win, in the end, was by three shots over three Koreans who have already made their mark in the US, but it was the manner of her win, leading from the front after her first round 65, that suggested that here was a young lady with quite a future.
Despite Ahn’s win, the round of the day came from Gloria Park, who had started the last round nine shots behind the leader and six shots behind Pak, Grace Park and Laura Davies. Park’s round of 62 included a homeward nine of 29.
Rachel Teske was the best from Australasia in 8th place, Wendy Doolan was 20th, Jo Anne Mills 25th, Michelle Ellis 45th and Shani Waugh 54th.
Many of this same field head to Japan next week for the Mizuno Classic.
