One of the more remarkable stories in Australian golf of late has been the performance of Queensland Club professional John Victorsen who has made it through to the final stage of qualifying for the 2004 US Champions Tour.

Victorsen, who has been the head professional at the Headland Golf Club on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane for many years, made the final field as an alternate from stage one qualifying where he missed one of the eighteen spots available there by just one. He gained entry however when one of those who qualified ahead of whim was forced to withdraw.

Victorsen was the 2001 Queensland PGA Club pro of the year and now faces perhaps his greatest test in golf when he lines up with 109 others over seventy two holes at the final stage in Coral Springs, Florida starting November 18th.

Only eight will gain fully exempt cards at the final stage with another eight getting non exempt status on the 2004 Champions Tour which will carry prize-money of more than $A70 million. The task therefore is great.

Whatever happens to Victorsen at the final stage, just to make this field is an achievement in itself.

The only other Australian at the final stage will be Terry Gale who has just completed his most successful year on the European Seniors Tour finishing in third place on that money list.
