"Rookie" Wadkins settles in

IN: News | by Bruce Young | 06 Aug 2002

The International by Qwest saw the "arrival" to televison commentary of Lanny Wadkins. Yes, sure, I know he has been part of the CBS team for a few months now but there was something about Wadkins involvement at Caste Pines that announced he had definitely arrived as a commentator. He was concise, positive and seemed to find that very important balance between opinion and fact.

His delivery has improved and I guess that comes, as it does on the golf course, with that feeling of belonging and knowing you have the acceptance of your peers.

With the greatest of respect for Ken Venturi this change has been long overdue. The new combination of Wadkins, Peter Oosterhuis, who I think is very underrated, David Feherty and Bobby Clampett as, in my opinion, the four leading lights in the CBS team will ensure even greater acceptance than previously by a demanding golfing audience. Peter Kostis, Gary McCord, Bill Macatee and Jim Nantz form the balance of a very good combination.
