Defending champion Ernie Els will be in the last three-ball out onto the course as he begins his quest to become the first person to win the Nedbank Challenge four times at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City today.

Els is on tee at 11:40am and will be playing alongside compatriot Retief Goosen, as well as veteran American Jay Haas, in a group that is certain to draw the largest galleries of the first day.

2001 champion Sergio Garcia of Spain is in the third group out alongside three-time champion and Sun City favourite Nick Price and another US veteran, Fred Funk.

First on tee at 10:40am, an hour earlier than has been customary because of the enlarged field, will be the group of Charles Howell III, Chris DiMarco and Tim Clark. The South African was drafted into the field when 2001 PGA champion David Toms withdrew due to injury.

The second group out features two Australians – Adam Scott and Stuart Appleby – and Irishman Padraig Harrington.

The Garcia group is followed by the three-ball of Darren Clarke, Jerry Kelly and International Team Presidents Cup hero Robert Allenby who are in turn followed by Stephen Leaney, Kenny Perry and one of the tournament favourites, Vijay Singh.
