The temperature and the golf are heating up as the first round of the 2003 Australian PGA Championship reaches mid-morning.

Paul Sheehan, just back from the Japan Series event last weekend in Tokyo, South Australian Wade Ormsby, a recent graduate to the European Tour and Rod Pampling share the lead at five under through all through eleven holes of their rounds.

Pampling, who has only last week returned from a break following surgery in late September, looks to be swinging the club as well as I have ever seen him do so and coming off another very good year in the US, he looks to be a much improved player and competitor.

Greg Norman, playing with Pampling and with the assistance of Leyton Hewitt on the bag, is at two under through eleven holes. Norman is including Hewitt in the yardage calculation process with both doing yardages and then checking them off with each other. Hewitt looks to be doing a god job apart from that also, doing the basic caddying duties in a tidy manner.
