Barnes and Downes head third day leaderboard at Open

As the rain eases and the breeze remains gentle, the leaders are on the course at the Australian Open and there is "plenty of movement at the station".

Overnight leader Chris Downes has been joined by American Ricky Barnes whose birdies at the par five 2nd and 4th holes allowed him to join Downes who is playing in the group behind and who birdied his third hole to move to eight under.

Mathew Ecob and Nathan Green are one back along with Stephen Allan, who has just regained the shot he lost early in his round and is back at six under. Ecob with birdies the first and second was close to the lead almost immediately.

Terry Price made a statement early with a birdie at the second and then a hole-in-one at the 5th hole to get to six under bit dropped a shot at the next hole to be in a large group at five under including Canberra's Mathew Millar who is two under for the day, Stephen Leaney, Peter Lonard, who continued his run of bad starts with a bogey at the first but regained that shot and more with birdies at the second and fourth and Peter Senior who after his win last week is once again in the thick of things.

Stuart Appleby, John Senden, Craig Parry and Jarrod Moseley are in a group at four under.

The round of the day to date has come from South Australian whiz kid Wade Ormsby whose round of 67 has him again in contention going into the final round. Michael Barry from Victoria also had a 67 and finds himself at two under one shot behind Ormsby and currently six behind the leading pair.
