Japanese duo take Asian PGA Final Stage Q-school lead

Japanese duo Satoshi Shimouchi and Satoshi Tomiyama took the lead on the opening day of the Final Stage of the Asian PGA Qualifying School today. They carded five-under-par 67s over the Cempaka Course at Palm Resort Golf & Country Club.
Australian Alistair Presnell, Edward Michaels from the United States and Taiwan’s Lien Yung-sheng shot 68s.
A total of 154 players teed off today chasing a top-40 finish in the four-round tournament to secure playing privileges for the 2004 season.
Taiwan’s Sung Mao-chang, winner of this event last year, started well with a 71 while Thailand’s rising star Prom Meesawat was level par. Another exciting young prospect, England’s Zane Scotland, fired a 73.
The top-80 players and ties after two rounds will qualify for the third and fourth rounds.
