Karrie Webb made two eagles on her way to -1 (71) and is one stroke behind co-leaders Korea's Candie Kung and Carin Koch, who are tied at -8. Beth Bauer, Tina Barrett and Paula Marti were tied for third with Webb at -7.

Sorenstam posted a second round 77 to follow her first round 73 and closed the 36 holes at 6, missing the 1 cut for the first time in 75 LPGA events. Sorenstam, who has won six tournaments this year, had made the cut in 74 straight tournaments, dating back to June 1999.

U.S. Open champion Juli Inkster, a winner of seven majors, shot a 78 and missed the cut with a tournament total of 9.

Wendy Doolan Michelle Ellis share 8th place and are the next best placed Aussies after Webb. Both players sit at -5 and will go into the weekend just three strokes off the lead. Rachel Teske slipped from 3rd to equal 25th following a second round 2 (74) but will have two days to regain some ground. Shani Waugh is at 39th, Karen Lunn 47th and Fiona Pike 58th. Joanne Mills was the only Aussie to miss the cut.
