Fog delays Dubai Desert Classic yet again

The third round of the 2004 Dubai Desert Classic will finally get underway at 12 noon UAE time today (March 6) after three consecutive days of early morning fog.
Yet another misty morning at the Emirates Golf Club meant the final groups who had yet to complete 36 holes returned to the Majlis Course this morning before the cut could be determined. Ernie Els made his move up the leader board with a second round 68 to move to 138 (-6) and joint ninth, while Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee (pictured left) shot five under for his last six holes to move to joint fourth on 134 (-8) alongside early leader Bradley Dredge.
And with the cut set at level par 144, some major names make an early exit from the Dubai Aluminium (DUBAL)-sponsored event including defending champion Robert-Jan Derksen, former winner Thomas Bjorn and European Tour big guns Darren Clarke and Ian Woosnam.
The remaining 71 players who made the cut will go out in groups of three with a two tee start from tees one and ten. PGA European Tour officials are confident that the third round will be successfully completed by the end of play today with the fourth and final round scheduled for tomorrow.
