Two Aussies make cut at US Women's Amateur
IN: News | 14 Aug 2002
American Courtney Swaim set a record and took the medalist honors at the end of the first 36 holes of qualifing at the US Women's Amateur Championship. Swaim backed up her first round 67 with a -3 (68) to qualify with -7 and two strokes better than the previous record set by Natalie Gulbis in 1999. Swaim finished three strokes clear of New Yorker Danielle Downey, who finished with a total of 138 following back-to-back 69's.
Two Australians have made it through to the matchplay section of the championship, Lindsey Wright and Katherine Hull. Wright closed with a total of 145 with Hull just one stroke back at 146 after a second round 4 (75). Ironically, it was the better known Carlie Butler that failed to make the cut (151 or 9) and finished at 14 (156) after two rounds of 7 (78).
