Canadian Tour money list finalised

The Greater Toronto Open which concluded on Sunday in Markham, Ontario brought the curtain down on this season’s Canadian Tour, in terms of the money list at least. The event was won by Chris Locker in a playoff over Derek Gillespie, with that playoff loss costing Gillespie a spot in the second stage of qualifying for the USPGA Tour.
With just the season ending teams event in Quebec and the Tour School to come, the 2002 Canadian Tour money list has been headed by Hank Kuehne with another former US Amateur in second place, namely Jeff Quinney. Both players receive exemptions to the second stage of qualifying for the USPGA Tour and both players as expected have very good futures, should they be able to claim a card at the final stage.
Kuehne, who won the US Amateur in 1998, has fought alchohol addiction and now appears back on track. His big hitting and solid all round game should make him a fine addition to the PGA Tour if, and when, he gets there. His sister Kelli is a star on the USLPGA.
Jeff Quinney won the US Amateur in 2000 and joined the Canadian Tour at the start of this year. He won in Arizona and in Michigan as part of this tour and now appears set to take his game to the next level.
The Australians were headed by Brisbane’s Scott Hend, who married just a few days before his first win at the Victorian Open. Hend finished in tenth place on the money list, two spots ahead of Canadian Tour regular David McKenzie. Given that Hend played fewer events than anyone else in the top twenty, his was a good effort.
Paul Devenport headed the New Zealanders in what has been a disappointing season for him, at least by his recent standards, and finished 32nd.
