Unknown New Zealander earns Shell Houston Open start

32-year-old New Zealander Jason Laing gets a chance to tee it up in a USPGA Tour event this week when he takes his place in the field for the Shell Houston Open.

The former Bay of Plenty representative and national Maori Champion in his homeland, won a spot in the event via Monday qualifying where he gained one of the four places available. He shared top honours amongst the long list of hopefuls this past Monday and now finds himself teeing it up against the likes of Vijay Singh, K.J.Choi, Justin Leonard, John Daly.

Laing has played mini-tours since moving to the US where he has worked amongst other jobs as a greenkeeper to make ends meet.
