State representative Justin Maker overcame defending Champion and Virginia club-mate Gavin Flint 5 & 3. Maker was out of the blocks quickly, with birdies for wins at the 3rd, 5th and 6th holes, before registering a rare win over Flint with a birdie on the 15th.
Caboolture's Ben Lammi played very solid golf to defeat 2001 Queensland Amateur Champion Jon O'Sullivan (Royal Queensland). O'Sulllivan won the 15th and 16th to reduce the deficit in the match to one hole, before pulling his tee shot on 17 out of bounds, and losing the hole and match at that point.
Jason Day (Hills) won the battle of the young lions, overcoming his State Junior Team Captain Ray Beaufils (Surfers Paradise) on the 18th hole. Beaufils had birdied the 17th to keep the match, in which he trailled Day most of the day, alive. Day finished off the match in style, holing a 4 metre birdied putt on 18.
New South Welshman Richie Gallichan (Moore Park, NSW) outlasted the Konica Minolta Queensland Medallist (and leading qualifier) - Indooroopilly's Paul Donahoo, in what was the longest match of the Championship thus far. Gallichan birdied the 20th hole for the win, after starting very poorly - losing the opening two holes in the morning.
