Taiwan’s Lu Wen-teh emerged as the halfway leader at the US$300,000 Mercuries Taiwan Masters after shooting a superb -7 (65) today. The 39-year-old Lu, the only player to win the event twice in its 16-year history, was flawless with eight birdies against one bogey over the Tamsui Course at Taiwan Golf and Country Club. His two-day total of -10 is one stroke ahead of overnight leader Aaron Meeks of the United States. After opening with a 65, Meeks carded a 70 to keep alive his hopes of a first title in Asia.
David Gleeson leads the Australasian attack at -5 and in equal 5th after the second round of play. Western Australian Kim Felton is next best at -4 (T10) with Brad Kennedy another two strokes back at -2 (T14). Michael Wright 1 (T30), David Bransdon 2 (T40) and Unho Park 3 (T50) were the only other ANZ players to make the cut.
Defending champion Daniel Chopra of Sweden barely survived the 3 cut after adding a 72 to his opening 75. A total of 54 players made the weekend play.
