With Australians Gavin Flint and Michael Sim both chasing one of the likely two places available in the Australian Eisenhower team for Puerto Rico later this year, their performance at this week’s Northeast Amateur on Rhode Island is being watched with interest. With New South Welshman, James Nitties, almost assured of his place on the team, there is great competition for the final two places between the likes of Flint, Sim, Robin Hodgetts, Jarrod Lyle and Andrew McKenzie.

In this morning’s first round, Sim made the best start with an opening round 71 with Flint a 74. They trail the first round leader, Californian and University of Oklahoma golfer, Anthony Kim, who opened with a first round 65.

Other Australians in the field include Mitchell Brown (69) and McKenzie whose round of 70 included a hole in one.
