Scott is back

Adam Scott does not, it would seem, know how to do things by halves. His win earlier this year in Qatar was by six shots and now this win over Raymond Russell and Sam Torrance by ten shots further indicated just how brilliant this 22 year old is.

His opening 67 had him nicely positioned behind fellow countryman Richard Green but when he had followed that up with a second round 65 it was a case of shut the gate as he consolidated and extended his winning break with a weekend total of 130.

For Scott, who had struggled for a few months following his fine ninth place at Augusta, it appears he is back on track. Some time spent with Butch Harmon appears to have paid dividends and he will head into the final few months of the year keen to get at some of the money that will be available. Scott has moved to eighth on the money list with just over 1,000,000 euros and appears set for a lot more before season’s end.

Sam Torrance who no doubt has one eye on his Ryder Cup duties played well in front of a home crowd to tie second with fellow Scot Raymond Russell.

There was a further shot back to Scott Gardiner who needed a good finish to put him in with a chance to secure his full playing rights for next season. He has only a limited category this season and so must rely on starts wherever the field strength allows and where he feels like he wants to play.

Gardiner has, it would appear, made a decision to focus on the remaining events and this very talented Australian should go on to be a force in European golf should he want to be. That is the issue for Gardiner as there are times when one gets the feeling that he would rather be at home than on the European Tour. It is therefore nice to see him capitalising on his great talent with finishes like this.

Richard Green was 11th, with Peter Fowler and Nick O’Hern 20th, Brett Rumford 27th, Stephen Leaney 32nd, Greg Turner 50th, Stephen Scahill 60th, Peter Senior 65th and Lucas Parsons 68th.
