Nitties, Sim secure top three finishes at Sahalee

NCAA Champion Ryan Moore of Puyallup, Washington shot a 5-under 67 Saturday for a 72-hole championship record total of 16-under 272 to claim the 11th Sahalee Players Championship by 5 shots. Moore, who will be a senior at UNLV, also broke the 54-hole championship record of 9-under 207 held by current PGA Tour player Arron Oberholser with his three-round total of 11-under 205. The championship was contested over 54 holes prior to 2003. Moore played a flawless final round with 5 birdies and no bogeys.

Australian James Nitties of Liberty Grove, New South Wales, matched Moore and Canadian Graham DeLaet for the low round of the day with a six birdie, one bogey 67 to finish in second place at 11-under 277.

Fellow Australian Michael Sim of Connolly, Western Australia carded a final round one-under 71 to finish in third at 6-under 282, with DeLaet, a Boise State golfer from Weyburn, Saskatchewan, in fourth at 4-under 284 after his 67.

First-round leader Dillon Dougherty of Woodland, California struggled to a 7-over 79 Saturday to finish tied for fifth at 2-under 286.

The 11th Sahalee Players Championship is the first leg of amateur golf’s Western Swing that also includes the 103rd Pacific Northwest Amateur Championship, which commences on Monday, July 12 at Overlake Golf & Country Club in Medina, Washington.
