Australia's Aron Price claims Players Amateur

Following the win by Queenslander, Jason Day, at the Callaway Golf World Junior Golf Championship on Saturday and the win yesterday in the Southern Amateur by West Australian, Michael Sim, yet another Australian, Aron Price, has today won the Players Amateur in Bluffton, South Carolina.
The Players Amateur is one of the leading Amateur events in US golf. Last year’s winner Camilo Villegas has just turned professional and is already making his mark in his first PGA Tournament, the BC Open.
Adding further to this marvellous run of results is that Queenslander Gavin Flint finished just one behind Price after faltering over the final round.
Flint had taken a two shot lead over Price and Clemson University’s Brent Delahoussaye into the final round but his 74 today and an impressive 71 by Price saw the saw him finish one back of Price sharing that place with Texas Christian University’s David Schultz.
New Zealander Bradley Iles finished in 9th place with Australians Luke Hickmott, Heath D’Altera, Andrew McKenzie and Marc Leishman finishing further back.
Price from Oyster Bay in New South Wales has just completed his third year at Georgia Southern University where he has been a star and led the local qualifying for the US Open at his venue in May. He did not make it to the US Open but judging by the development in his game, he soon will.
Flint’s performance will no doubt enhance his chances of making the Australian Eisenhower team, that event to be played in South America in Puerto Rico in October.
