New South Wales golfers James Nitties and Aron Price will face off in one semi-final of the Western Amateur in Benton Harbour, Michigan, ensuring that Australia will have a representative in the final of this prestigious amateur event.

In the quarter-finals held on Saturday afternoon, Nitties defeated Kevin Ward of Kansas at the third extra hole while Price, who had easily led the qualifiers, defeated fellow countryman Michael Sim of Western Australia, 1 up. Nitties had beaten another Australian, Bronson La Cassie, in round one and Price had beaten Kyle Reifers from Ohio to advance to his quarter final match against Sim.

In the other semi-final Washington’s Ryan Moore will meet Californian Peter Tomasulo for the right to play either Nitties or Price in the final.

A win by Price over Nitties may well launch him into the Australian Eisenhower Team as Price’s form in recent weeks has been outstanding, having won the Players Amateur two weeks ago and two other tournaments in recent weeks.
