Three of the hottest players in the world at the moment, Rich Beem, Craig Parry and Adam Scott, have confirmed their participation in the World Golf Championships-American Express Championship.
The tournament will be held at Mount Juliet in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland from Sept. 19 - 22 2002.
Parry ended a 15-year wait for a victory in the United States when he took the $1-million first prize at the World Golf Championships-NEC Invitational. It was the Australian's first victory in three years.
Beem, the recently crowned PGA champion, continued his fine run last week with a top-10 finish at the NEC Invitational. Meanwhile, on the European Tour, Scott strolled to a 10-stroke triumph at the Diageo Scottish PGA Championships at Gleneagles to underline his return to form.
"We are obviously delighted that so many of the top-ranked players in the world have committed to the event," said Peter Adams, the director of the American Express Championship. "With just three weeks to go there is great excitement in Ireland about seeing the world's best golfers in action at Mount Juliet.
"Rich Beem, Craig Parry and Adam Scott are all in wonderful form at the moment and their participation in World Golf Championships-American Express Championship adds further luster to the event."
Already confirmed world No. 3 Ernie Els, No. 5 Sergio Garcia, No. 7 Davis Love III and 12th-ranked David Duval.
Players can qualify for the American Express Championship through a variety of avenues. The top-50 players from the Official World Golf Ranking as of Monday, Sept. 9, will be joined in the field by leading money winners from the six Tours that make up the International Federation of PGA Tours.
