American Gene Sauers reeled off six birdies and a bogey in ten holes to take a one stroke lead into the final round of the 2002 Air Canada Championship. Sauers, a Buy.com regular, has only played in three PGA events this year with his best result, a tie for 40th, coming at the John Deere Classic in July.
Robert Allenby and Peter Lonard continue to lock horns in second place at -12 after both posting a -3 (68). Lonard’s round was a rollercoaster ride that included two eagles, three birdies and four bogeys while Allenby took a more conventional route with five birdies and just two bogeys.
Steve Lowery (-11), Kevin Sutherland (-10) and Craig Barlow (-10) sit at outright 4th and 5th respectively and are all within striking distance of Sauers at -13.
Geoff Ogilvy, who finished in equal 61st at last week’s Rano Tahoe Open, has rebounded this week following a -4 (67) today and sits in equal 20th. John Senden and Greg Chalmers closed the day in a tie for 29th with Phil Tataurangi, another stroke back at -4. Five players missed the cut including Aaron Baddeley and Paul Gow.
