The two Australians who made it to the match play phase of the US Amateur, Bronson La Cassie and Aron Price, have both advanced to the second round following their narrow first round wins.

New South Welshman, Price, reached a three up lead through eleven holes against the 2003 US Junior Champion Brian Harman, but Harman fought back to level the match at the 18th only to miss a short putt at the first extra hole to allow Price to sneak through into round two. Price narrowly missed selection for the Australian Eisenhower Team recently and while it is early days yet in this Championship a win is not beyond the Georgia Southern University golfer. The scoring in this match was solid given the difficulty of the Winged Foot layout. Only one player broke par for the 36 holes in the strokeplay qualifying and today Price was one over when he finished his match at the first extra hole.

LaCassie was never behind in his match against American Buck Williams but it was close fought until the Queenslander edged two ahead when Williams bogeyed the 16th. Both parred the 17th and the match was all over at 2 & 1. It was a high scoring match but at least LaCassie is now into round two and no doubt growing in confidence each day.
