Queensland’s best amateur golfers will gather at Brookwater Golf Club to contest for Australia’s “Green Jacket” as part of the NEC Master of the Amateurs tournament.
The NEC Master of the Amateurs tournament is Australia’s most coveted amateur event and is open to all amateur golfers with an AGU handicap under 12.
Brookwater will host the Queensland regional qualifying event on 7 November 2004, with the national final being played at the Yarra Yarra Golf Club in January 2005.
The overall winner is presented with a green jacket and crowned “Master of the Amateurs”.
Past winners of the green jacket include Brendan Jones who has gone on to experience tremendous success on the professional tour. Brendan is currently ranked third on the Japanese Tour Order of Merit.
Senior Vice-President of Troon Golf Australia-Pacific Bruce Glasco said that Troon Golf and Brookwater Golf Club are proud to be supporting the NEC Master of the Amateurs event.
“As Queensland’s premier golf course, Brookwater is the ideal venue to host such an important tournament as the NEC Master of the Amateurs,” Mr Glasco said.
“Brookwater has been described as Australia’s answer to Augusta National so it is only fitting the course hosts a tournament where the players are vying for the green jacket.
“We are very excited to be involved and look forward to seeing how Queensland’s best amateurs play this world-class golf course,” he said.
Tournament Director Peter Mann said the event provided the opportunity for A-Grade amateurs to prove who is Australia’s best amateur golfer.
“The NEC Master of the Amateurs is now in its eighth successful year and the 72-hole Championship is considered by many of the world’s leading professional and amateur golfers to be the finest tournament of its kind in the world,” Mr Mann said.
The winner of the gross and net of the event at Brookwater will travel to Melbourne for the final at Yarra Yarra from 23 – 27 January 2005. The other qualifying round is being held at The Vintage Golf Club in the Hunter Valley on Sunday, 21 November 2004.
