The Von Nida Tour’s 2004 Queensland PGA Championship at the Gold Coast’s Emerald Lakes Golf Club, takes on a new look this year with Toyota taking the naming rights sponsorship.

Toyota’s involvement in the tournament from November 11th to 14th has added a unique and innovative dimension to the event by offering not one, but three Toyota Vehicles as giveaways during the week long event.

Spectators attending the tournament throughout the week will have the opportunity to win one of these fantastic cars. In addition to the prizemoney on offer, another will go to the winner of the Daikin Night Golf Shootout held at 6.30pm on Monday 8th November and the third, presented to the winner of the Toyota PGA Championship on Sunday 14th November. The package of cars on offer, three very trendy and popular Toyota Echos, is believed to be a “first” as prizes at any Australian golf tournament.

David White, General Manager of Marketing and Leisure Operations at Nifsan, a Gold Coast Residential Development Company and owners of both the Emerald Lakes Golf Club and recently opened The Villa said, “Having Toyota come on board provides us with an opportunity to build from the great base the tournament established at Emerald Lakes in its first year in 2003. Having such a significant company as Toyota involved establishes even greater credibility for the event. With both, Toyota and Daikin, (Sponsors of the Monday Night Shootout) involved as major sponsors of the week’s events, it augurs well for a very successful week and for the future of the Tournament at Emerald Lakes Golf Club.”

Toyota Queensland’s Marketing Manager, Simon Wilson, said, “When Nifsan, and Emerald Lakes Golf Club, approached us with the proposal to come on board as the naming rights sponsor of the event, we were interested immediately, because it offered us the opportunity to reward not only the players, but also the local Gold Coast public, who have been such great supporters of our product. We are looking forward to what promises to be a very exciting week of golf on the Gold Coast.”

Leading players currently committed to the event include current Australian PGA Champion Peter Senior, Scott Hend, the number two in driving distance on the USPGA Tour in 2003, Scott Gardiner, who is currently fourth on the 2004 Australasian Tour money list, and Gold Coast golfer and European Tour player Terry Price. The World, Australian and New Zealand Junior Champion in 2004, Jason Day has also accepted an invitation to play.

“Several other leading players are also expected to play the event subject to the issues surrounding final qualifying schools overseas and the finalisation of money lists worldwide,” said Gavin Kirkman Senior Executive Officer of the Queensland PGA.
