It promises to be a fantastic 2004 HSBC World Match Play final as defending champion Ernie Els and 2000 champion Lee Westwood secured their places in tomorrow’s showpiece.
Els, who will be playing in his seventh World Match Play final, had a comfortable 5 & 4 win over Ireland’s Padraig Harrington, while Westwood beat Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez by 1 hole.
South African Els will also be hoping to make history on the West Course on Sunday with a sixth HSBC World Match Play Championship that would eclipse the record of 5 wins he shares with two legends of golf, Seve Ballesteros of Spain and Gary Player of South Africa.
It’s not just about records though as the winner will also carry off the Mark McCormack Trophy and a cheque for £1 million. The runner-up has the consolation of going home with a prize of £400,000.
