With no wins and only three top threes in one hundred and forty six starts since joining the USLPGA in 1995, Tracy Hanson is perhaps an unlikely first round leader of the Williams World Challenge in Tulsa. Missing the last two cuts also did nothing to suggest that an opening 64 was just around the corner for the 30 year old. She leads by a shot from recent Solheim Cup recruit Cristie Kerr and by two from last week’s winner Patricia Meunier-Lebouc, Grace Park, Liselotte Neumann and controversial Solheim Cup omission Catriona Matthew.

Joanne Mills in her first year on tour, and doing well, is the leading Australian in tenth place at 1 under, Michelle Ellis at even par, Shani Waugh, Rachel Teske, Karen Pearce and Tamie Durdin 1 over, Wendy Doolan and Gloria Park at 2 over, Jane Crafter and Fiona Pike at 3 over, Jan Stephenson at 6 over and Mardi Lunn at 8 over.

Of the leading players pre tournament favourite Annika Sorenstam is in seventh place at 2 under, Julie Inkster is at even par along with Mi Hyun Kim, but the surprise of the week so far is that Se Ri Pak has opened with a first round 5 over seventy five.
