Vijay Singh, an eight-time winner on the 2004 PGA TOUR and top-ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings, has added his name to the commitment list for the Chrysler Championship.
US Ryder Cup Team member Kenny Perry and veterans Mark Calcavecchia and Hidemichi Tanaka also committed.
Singh became the top-ranked player in the world earlier this fall when he won five times in his last six starts. With eight victories on the year, he has won US$9,455,566 on the year and could become the first player to top the once unthinkable US$10 million mark at the Chrysler Championship.
Singh proved that the Copperhead Course was to his liking last fall when he finished second in the 2003 event to Retief Goosen.
“Vijay is the hottest player in the world,” says Tournament Director Gerald Goodman. “He’s been a good friend of this tournament over the years and we’re glad to have him back.”
In addition to Singh, the Chrysler Championship field also features Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson, second and fourth respectively in the latest Official World Golf Rankings.
The US$5 million Chrysler Championship will be held October 28-31 on the par-71 Copperhead Course at the Westin Innisbrook Resort.
