Heavy and persistent rain over the last few days on the Gold Coast has meant the event organisers at the Toyota Queensland PGA Championship have been forced to reschedule the Daikin Night Golf Shootout from Monday 8th November to Saturday 13th. Despite a much improved drainage system at the Emerald Lakes Golf Club, the course has struggled to cope with the deluge the Gold Coast has experienced over the last 24 hours.

The Daikin Night Golf Shootout, played over nine holes under lights and boasting a first prize of a Toyota Echo car and $5000, now becomes part of the weekend activities, but it may just be that the date change will work in the event’s favour.

“The Daikin Night Golf Shootout was always going to be the Monday night, but being forced to make the change gives us the chance to test the concept on the Saturday night and it may just be that it will work in a positive way for the event,” said Nifsan’s David White.

“There will be even more focus on the Toyota Queensland PGA generally at that time and it offers the chance for people to come out on a Saturday night rather than the Monday evening. It should therefore offer an even greater attraction for families. The Monday night was initially chosen in consideration of the players, but thus far all have indicated a willingness to play the event on the eve of the final round of the Championship.”

Decisions on the Wednesday Pro Am will be finalised tomorrow following a further meeting between the Queensland PGA and Nifsan, the owners of Emerald Lakes.

The Junior Pro Am which was to be held on Monday, will be rescheduled to a date yet to be determined.
