QLD amateurs qualify for NEC Master of the Amateurs

Some of Australia’s best amateur golfers gathered at Brookwater Golf Club for the NEC Master of the Amateurs yesterday to fight for an entry into the national final.
Winners of the gross and nett event were Gareth Plumridge and Chris Myers with scores of 77 and 77 nett respectively.
Both will now travel to Melbourne for the final at Yarra Yarra from 23-27 January 2005 where they will battle it out for their chance to win the coveted green jacket and be crowned “Master of the Amateurs”.
The 2 gross winners for the event were:

The 2 nett winners for the event were:
Nett Winner
Chris Myers Oxley Golf Club – 77 nett (86 gross)
Nett Runner-up
Kohey Shirai Arundel Hills Country Club – 77 nett (89 gross) on count back.
Brookwater Golf Club Marketing Executive Kirsty Whiteman said that the tournament was a great success, with a very high standard of golf displayed.
“Despite the drizzle, the turnout was fantastic and all golfers remained determined to fight for their place in the national final next year,” Ms Whiteman said.
“The golfers’ commitment was especially evident with Peter Braun from Medway Golf Club in Melbourne driving 22 hours straight to participate in the tournament.
“This is one of Australia’s leading amateur tournaments and we were thrilled to host the NEC Master of the Amateurs at Brookwater Golf Club,” she said.
The NEC Master of the Amateurs tournament is Australia’s most coveted amateur event and is open to all amateur golfers with an AGU handicap under 12.
The NEC Master of the Amateurs is now in its eighth successful year and the 72-hole Championship is considered by many of the world’s leading professional and amateur golfers to be the finest tournament of its kind in the world.
