Karlsson continues Swedish trend

Robert Karlsson became the fifth different winner from Sweden on the European Tour this season with his four shot win over Paul Lawrie and Trevor Immelman this week in Crans Sur Sierre, Switzerland. When you throw in the likes of Anders and Soren Hansen and Thomas Bjorn the Scandanavian presence on the tour is clear.
This was Karlsson’s fifth win in his eleventh season.
Karlsson, who like Argentinians Ricardo Gonzalez and Eduardo Romero in the two previous years, led from the word go and his chasers were perhaps a little flattered that the margin was only four. Karlsson bogied the last two holes to reduce the margin having gone into cruise control over the last two holes with bogies at both.
He had opened the door at that start of the last round with three bogies in the first five holes but steadied the ship from that point on until the sloppy finish.
Paul Lawrie and Trevor Immelman, who must be close to his first win, were alone in second four shots adrift.
Australians were headed by Stephen Leaney and Jarrod Mosley who were tied in sixth and cheques for $A75,000 came their way, Michael Campbell was 10th, Brett Rumford 36th, Scott Gardiner 43rd and Stephen Scahill 52nd.
