Great field in Cologne

One of the best fields in a regular European Tour event this season takes their place when the Linde German Masters gets under way on Thursday.
Given that it is one of the richest events on tour and that it is promoted by a very proactive organiser (Bernhard Langer) then it is perhaps not hard to understand that they are lining up to get a start.
Rich Beem and John Daly, two of the games most colourful characters, are in the field. Beem is now taking advantage of his new place in world golf to earn some of the substantial appearance money that is available to winners of majors. Let's hope he keeps that in check as many have fallen for the same trap before and their game has suffered accordingly.
Daly has become a great friend of German golf with his win last year at the BMW and his second placing here. He was also tenth a couple of weeks ago in Muncih so Germany seems to hold a special place in his golfing heart.
Ernie Els, Paul Lawrie, Retief Goosen, Lee Westwood, Colin Montgomerie, Jose Maria Olazabal, Nick Faldo and four time winner Langer will line up. Of interest is that last week's Asian Tour winner and previous winner here Sergio Garcia is not in the field. It may be that he needs a break before the rigours of the American Express next week and the Ryder Cup following.
Australasians Campbell, Lonard, O'Malley, Scott, Leaney, Ohern, Green , Parsons, Turner, Rumford, Moseley, Scahill, Senior, Fowler, Boult and Gardiner are entered at this stage although Boult and Gardiner may struggle to secure a spot in the field.
