Three further Australians have advanced to the final stage of qualifying for the USPGA Tour when Ewan Porter (2nd) Kim Felton (11th) and Craig Carmichael (13th) finished inside the top 20 at their venue in Seaside, California. Andrew Tschudin missed by an agonising one shot at the same venue. Australian Matthew Zions who played collegiate golf in Colorado was 33rd, Richard Moir was also 33rd with Nationwide Tour players Matt Jones 55th and New Zealander Steve Alker, 61st.

South Australian based Swede, Jens Nilsson faltered over the final 36 holes at his venue in Beaumont, California after a fine start to finish 45th and his chance is gone.

At the rain delayed venue in Texas, Queenslander Adam Crawford is in 30th position with two rounds to go and still has a chance of graduating.

In Florida New Zealand’s Grant Waite’s USPGA Tour career comes to at least a temporary halt, by missing the final stage by just two shots and Brad Heaven finished 72nd, with the cold hard reality of professional golf setting in.

Waite, of course, was a winner on the USPGA Tour at the 1993 Kemper Open and was runner-up to Tiger Woods at the 2000 Canadian Open. Heaven turned professional in July after a successful collegiate career at the University of Toledo. Heaven, who finished runner up to Terry Price at the New Zealand Open in January, made it to stage two in both Europe and the US but now finds himself without a confirmed place to play in 2005.
