Seven times European Money List Winner, Scotland’s Colin Montgomerie is the latest big name player in the list of international stars to commit to the Heineken Classic field at Royal Melbourne.
A rejuvenated Montgomerie who seems to be making an effort to play more internationally is a welcome addition to the field that already boasts Ernie Els, Adam Scott, Greg Norman, Nick Faldo, Thomas Bjorn, Craig Parry, Stuart Appleby and Michael Campbell.
President of SFX Sports Golf Tony Roosenburg was understandably upbeat about the Montgomerie announcement.
“Once again with the addition of Colin Montgomerie to a field that was already very strong, the Heineken Classic can lay claim to being by far the strongest international golf event in this country. We have the world number two; Ernie Els shooting for four wins in a row, champions of Australian golf in Greg Norman, Adam Scott, Stuart Appleby and Craig Parry, joined by international stars, Faldo, Bjorn, Campbell and now Monty.”
“When you consider that we are confident of adding Masters winner Richard Green and world number 45; Nick O’Hern amongst others, you will realise how strong we are. There is no doubt that one of the great attractions for these players is the magnificent presentation of the Royal Melbourne Golf Club, and I would have to say I have never seen it looking better.”
The Heineken Classic will be played at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club on 3 – 6 February 2005.
