Peter Lonard to play the Heineken Classic

Peter Lonard will play the 2005 Heineken Classic after finalising his schedule for the first few events of 2005.
Speaking on his website www.peterlonard.com today Lonard said he was keen to revisit Royal Melbourne where in 2003 he went so close to winning the event.
“I guess you could say there is some unfinished business there. I came up a metre or so short with my approach to the 72nd hole two years ago which cost me a chance of a playoff with Ernie so it will be nice to get back there. I have always liked the course and the event.”
Lonard finished as the leading money winner in Australasian events in 2004, but was unable to claim the Order of Merit title because he had not played a sufficient number of events. By playing at Royal Melbourne next month he will ensure that, along with the three main events later in the year, he will be in a position to play the minimum of four events necessary to contend for Australasian PGA Tour Order of Merit titles in 2005.
Lonard was unable to play the Heineken last year, after having made the commitment to play, because of the injury he sustained while overdoing a training exercise. It was that injury that prevented him from playing the required number of events on the 2004 Australasian Tour Order of Merit.
