Aussies leading the way at Asian Tour Q-School

At Tanjong Puteri’s Course B, Aussies are ruling the fairways with Richard Swift leading after two rounds with his 136 total. He is one stroke ahead of compatriot Matthew Millar. Malaysia’s Shaifubari Muda remained in position to qualify for next week’s Final Stage, shooting a 71 for tied 11th place.

Japan’s Kazuharo Shimizu is leading the way at the halfway stage of the Asian Tour Qualifying School, Stage One held over four courses in this southern city of Malaysia.

Shimizu carded a five-under-par 67 at Tanjong Puteri Golf and Country Club’s Course C to lead by two strokes with his 12-under-par aggregate of 132, the lowest amongst four venues. American Mike Capone is second on 134 after adding a 66 to his opening 68.

Another Japanese player, Koji Katoh is at the top of the leaderboard at Palm Resort Golf and Country Club’s Cempaka Course after shooting his second straight 69. He is two ahead of Matt Keegan of Australia and Englishman Steve Parry.

At Pulai Springs Resort, Malaysia’s 17-year-old rookie professional Hanafiah Jamil slipped to tied 33rd place following a 77. England’s Gary Day leads by two shots on 137 after a second round effort of 67.

The fields across the four venues were cut to the top-65 players and ties today. The top-20 finishers from each venue on Saturday will proceed into the Final Stage at Palm Resort next week where 40 Asian Tour cards are at stake for the 2005 season.
