Annika Sorenstam shot a course record -10 (62) to take hold of the lead at the 2002 LPGA Safeway Classic while overnight co-leader, Karrie Webb fell away after four-putting from one metre at the 10th hole to finish with a double-bogey seven. Webb went on to birdie the 18th hole and closed with a -1 (71) and trails Sorenstam by seven strokes with one round to play.
Sorenstam leads by three strokes at -13 from Karen Stupples with Kate Golden another stroke back at -9.
Despite her mid-round woes, Webb is the leading Australian and is one shot ahead of NSW duo Joanne Mills and Michelle Ellis, who closed the third round in equal 13th place at -5. Karen Pearce sits in 26th place at -3 with Rachel Teske finishing in a tie for 36th.
