The temperature climbed into the 30’s, and the golf was hot too in the second round of the 2005 NEC Master of the Amateurs played at Yarra Yarra Golf Club in Melbourne today.

Overnight leader Ashley Hall kept his cool with another sub par round. But he now shares the lead with teenage sensation Jason Day. The current World Junior Golf Champion had a three under 69, but his wasn’t the best round of the day; that came from Victoria Golf Club member Matthew Griffin who carded a 67.

Jason Day isn’t the only world champion golfer in the NEC Master of the Amateurs field. 32-year-old Shane Luke from Liverpool in New South Wales is the current World Amputee Champion. As a 14-year-old he lost his right leg below the knee to cancer. His sporting ambition continues and in 2002 he took the world title. Shane plays off five and after a first round 81, today he returned a 78.
