Ashley Hall leads NEC Master of the Amateurs

21-year-old Ashley Hall takes a two shot lead into tomorrow’s 4th and final round of the 2005 NEC Master of the Amateurs being played at Yarra Yarra in Melbourne. He has had three sub-par rounds, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing today. Ashley was two over after the first four holes and admitted the hot gusty conditions were making things difficult. But he picked up three shots on the back nine, including an eagle on the 454-metre par 5 16th, to finish two under for the day.
Ashley is coming off a successful year in 2004 when he won the Murray Valley Championship, the Mornington Open and the Peninsula Open. And he is confident he knows the Yarra Yarra layout, playing there at least once a year.
One player who would know Yarra Yarra is Kane Streat. He is a member at the famous sand belt club and tonight is poised just two shots behind the leader.
After sharing the lead overnight, World Junior Golf Champion JASON DAY had a couple of bogeys early and found the faster greens and gusty wind a little tricky. After putting a ball up a tree and losing a shot, Jason came home with three birdies. Sitting three shots off the pace tonight, he says he will play his own game tomorrow and is feeling confident about the result.
Also set to strike tomorrow are Yarra Yarra member Toby Wilcox and Matthew Griffin from Victoria, both three under for the tournament.
