Aussie O'Hern mauls Tiger in Accenture Match Play

34-year-old West Australian Nick O’Hern has produced one of the upsets of the tournament by knocking out world number two Tiger Woods, in the second round of the World Championships–Accenture Match Play Championship in Carlsbad California.
O’Hern took a 3 and 1 victory over Woods, ending the world number two’s 13 match winning streak. O’Hern led the whole way in his match, winning the second and third holes with birdies never letting Woods, the two time defending champion in. O’Hern finished with a 30 foot putt to birdie the 17th and close out the match.
O’Hern had flown from Perth on Sunday to play in the Championship which had a record 10 Australians lining up this year. (The Accenture Matchplay event features players from around the world competing against one another in a matchplay format. Qualification for the Match Play is the top 64 available players based on the Official World Golf Ranking).
Of those Australasians left in the event, they are currently playing the third round. O’Hern is playing England’s Luke Donald, Adam Scott, winner of this week’s Nissan Open on the US PGA TOUR takes on Spain’s Sergio Garcia and Robert Allenby is up against Kirk Triplett of the USA.
