Relatively calm conditions combined with receptive greens assisted Victorian professional Matthew Milne in shooting an amazing nine under par 64 in the morning first round of the Bega Cheese NSW PGA Championship held at Pambula Merimbula and Tura Beach Golf Courses.

Milne, who played at the Pambula Merimbula Course today, recorded a bogey free round of 64 that included seven birdies and an eagle. Milne’s eagle came at the par five 12th hole where he pitched in from a tricky lie around the green.

Newcastle’s Nathan Green continued his solid Von Nida Tour form with an opening round of seven under 66 around the Pambula Merimbula layout.

Scoring proved tougher at the Tura Beach Course but Western Australian Tony McFadyean breezed through his first round to post a 66 to be tied for second with Green after the morning round.

With freshening winds and drying greens expected for the afternoon round, it will take an extraordinary round by one of the afternoon players to overtake Milne and the other morning leaders.
