Ramsay, Tampion to battle for Australian Amateur title

Scotland's Eric Ramsay will take on local hope Andrew Tampion over 36 holes in the final of the Australian Amateur Championship at Royal Melbourne's West course tomorrow.
Ramsay, who is down in Australia with fellow Scot Graeme Brown to develop their games during the northern winter, reached the final with a narrow one up victory over Sun Hoon Kang while Tampion defeated Taiwain's Chiang Chen-Chi by the same margin.
20-year-old Tampion from the Kingswood Club in Victoria and a VIS Scholarship holder, was 14th at last week's Riversdale Cup while Ramsay was 36th in the same event. Ramsey had qualified in 5th place at the Australian Stroke Play Championship last weekend with Tampion finishing runner up and one shot behind Sun Hoon Kang.
In 2004 Tampion won the Prince of Wales Grand Challenge Cup over the Royal Cinque and Royal St George courses in the UK by nine shots just a few weeks after finishing runner up at the Tennant Cup to Marc Leishman. Tampion joined the Australian Golf Union's National Squad after a successful 2004.
Ramsay, from Carnoustie, was a semi-finalist at the 2004 British Amateur.
Both Ramsay and Brown have utilised the facitlites of the Australian Institute of Sports facilities while here in additon to playing at Riversdale and the Royal Melbourne and Woodlands layouts this week.
For both players this represents their greatest stage to date and an opportunity to join an illustrious group of golfers who have won this great event.
