Martin Doyle to defend SA PGA title

IN: News | Von Nida | South Australian PGA Championship (2005) | Preview | 25 Apr 2005

Martin Doyle will defend his South Australian PGA Championship title this week when play begins at Grange West on Tuesday 26 April. Doyle will face some stiff opposition with previous winners Richard Ball, Stuart Bouvier and Tony Carolan also keen to add to their CV in South Australia.

Recent Von Nida Tour winners Michael Wright (Toyota Southern Classic), Gavin Flint (Bega Cheese NSW PGA Championship), along with the big hitting Kurt Barnes (Victorian Open) are also entered in the event and add plenty of depth to an impressive field.

Preparations at Grange West will ensure that players are again presented with a quality golf course at the Grange complex. The West course is a "classic" sure to delight the players who prefer a traditional style layout.

South Australia will be well represented in the Championship, with Adrian Percey in good form. He will be supported by an emerging group of professionals including Adam Bland, Henry Perks, Andrew Johnson and Ben Hallam who will all be very comfortable playing the West.

The ever popular Lyndsay Stephen, another previous winner of this Championship, will tee it up, and his smooth swing and laid back approach is sure to impress spectators.

Six leading South Australian amateurs have been invited to play in the tournament, and many good judges predict that David Lutterus will figure prominently after a solid grounding at the AIS.

In an arrangement struck with the SA division, two young Victorian players Shane Johnson and Tim Wise will participate under the banner of the David Hookes Foundation. Their participation honours the memory of Hookes, and promotes the awareness of the David Hookes Foundation.

Play will commence on Tuesday, with the final round scheduled for Friday 29 April.
