Carlson sets pace in Queensland Medal
IN: News | Queensland Mens | Queensland Medal (2005) | Round One | 27 Apr 2005
Pacific's Kurt Carlson returned a score of 65 (-6) in the first round of the Queensland Medal at Gold Coast Burleigh Golf Club today.
In a rain-interrupted day at The Pines Sanctuary Cove, former touring professional Tony Wolsey and State representative Ben Pisani (Indooroopilly) lead the field with excellent rounds of three under par 69's in extremely trying conditions. Such were the conditions at Thhe Pines that a couple of stoppages were necessary, and two groups were required to complete their first round this morning.
The defending Queensland Amateur Champion Jason Day withdrew from the tournament prior to its commencement. Day is suffering from illness and injury sustained during the Australian Junior Championship earlier this month.
Tomorrow's play sees all competitors play the second round at the opposite course to that which they played yesterday. A cut will take place at the conclusion of today's play to the top 60 player plus ties.
