McFadyean secures first Von Nida victory
IN: News | Von Nida | South Australian PGA Championship (2005) | Wrap | 29 Apr 2005
Western Australia's Tony McFadyean held off a strong challenge from Queenslander Andrew Duffin to secure his first Von Nida Tour title at Grange West in the Cadbury Schweppes SA PGA Championship.
Starting the day at 13 under par, McFadyean added a two under par 70 to his total to clinch victory by one shot. Duffin stormed home with a brilliant 66, at one stage sharing the lead with McFadyean.
Sensing victory, McFadyean strayed a little in the middle of his round, but got it all together again to come home with a very solid game.
South Australian amateur David Lutterus showed he has a future by matching it with the leaders all day, his par round giving a 12 under total to share third place with Michael Curtain and Anthony Summers.
McFadyean has been playing the SA pro-am circuit as a lead-up to the Championship and he acknowledged that his acclimatisation in SA had helped him enormously.
Scott Draper was genuinely excited with his tournament when a final round 68 for a 279 total earned him eighth spot.
